2. What we collect, and why
| When you… | We collect | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Send an enquiry about a vehicle | Name, phone, email, your message, the vehicle | To answer you and arrange viewings |
| Ask us to buy your vehicle | Name, phone, email, vehicle details and condition notes | To value the vehicle and make you an offer |
| Create an account | Name, email, phone, password (stored only in encrypted form) | To give you an account and sign you in |

| Bid on a lot | Your bids, your maximum bid and your bidder number | To run the auction. Other bidders see only your bidder number, never your name. Your maximum is never shown to anyone. |
| Buy a vehicle | Invoice and payment details | To complete the sale, issue tax invoices and keep our accounting records |
| Use the website | Technical data such as IP address, browser and pages visited; cookies (section 7) | To keep the site secure, keep you signed in and fix faults |
Giving us this information is voluntary. If you do not provide what a form asks for, we may not be able to answer your enquiry, open an account or approve you to bid.
We do not make automated decisions about you, and we do not sell your information.
3. Who we share it with
- Service providers who host and operate the website for us, under contract and only on our instructions: Vercel (website hosting), Supabase (database and sign-in, hosted in Ireland) and Resend (account emails, sent from Ireland).
- Finance houses, only if you ask us to arrange finance for you.
- Our accountants, auditors and legal advisers, where needed.
- Authorities such as SARS or the Financial Intelligence Centre, where the law requires it.
4. Information sent outside South Africa
Our hosting providers store and process information outside South Africa, mainly in the European Union and the United States. We use providers bound by data-protection terms that give a level of protection substantially similar to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.
5. How long we keep it
- Identity and verification records for bidders and buyers: five years after your last transaction with us, as anti-money-laundering law requires.
- Invoices and accounting records: five years, as the Tax Administration Act requires.
- Enquiries and valuation requests that did not lead to a sale: two years.
- Account details: while your account is open, then deleted or anonymised unless the law requires us to keep them.
6. How we protect it
Information travels over encrypted connections. Passwords are never stored in readable form. Access to bidder and buyer records is limited to authorised staff, and database rules stop one customer from seeing another customer’s details. If we discover a security compromise affecting your information, we will tell you and the Information Regulator, as POPIA requires.
7. Cookies
We use only the cookies the site needs to work:
- Sign-in cookies keep you logged in to your account.
- A sales-team cookie remembers which salesperson to show you next, so contact details rotate fairly. It holds a single number and nothing about you.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If you choose to show the map on our contact page, Google Maps loads and Google may set its own cookies.
8. Your rights
You may:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy;
- ask us to correct or delete information that is wrong, out of date or no longer needed;
- object to our processing it, including for direct marketing;
- withdraw your consent where we rely on consent.
Contact us as set out in section 1. Some records we must keep by law, even if you ask us to delete them. We only send marketing about our stock or auctions if you have bought from us or agreed to receive it, and every such message lets you opt out.
9. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please contact us first. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
10. Changes
We may update this notice. The current version is always on this page, with its date. See also our website and auction terms.
